Collection Systems

Wastewater collection system improvements.

In addition to constructing a new Water Reclamation Facility, SLCDPU is repairing and replacing segments of sewer pipe that are in poor condition and in need of rehabilitation to improve their longevity and reduce the risk of failure. Some parts of these critical wastewater-collection pipelines are decades old and require constant maintenance to remain in service.

Five major “Water RENEW” projects are planned for construction during 2019. Three projects will take place on the City’s west side; two other projects will take place at SLCDPU’s Water Reclamation Facility complex.

To minimize impacts of construction to residents, businesses and commuters, SLCDPU is using innovative technology to install a liners inside the existing pipes. This shortens the construction process without compromising quality. Depending on the scope of repairs on each segment, temporary interruptions in water and sewer service may occur in localized areas. Pedestrian and motorist traffic will be rerouted at times.

SLCDPU is committed to keeping the public informed throughout the process of wastewater collection system improvements and residents and businesses in the area will be given advance notice of any work taking place in their neighborhoods.
